Vancouver Island Ancient Forest Conference - March 18, 2006
On Saturday, March 18, 2006, a hundred people attended the Western Canada Wilderness Committee's "Vancouver Island Ancient Forest Conference" at the University of Victoria. The conference focused on the need to protect the remaining productive ancient forests of Vancouver Island, 75% of which have already been logged-off. Speakers included former WCWC directors Paul George and Adriane Carr, Diego Garcia of the Friends of Clayoquot Sound, Roger Wiles of the Youbou TimberLess Society, Dr. Neville Winchester of the UVic Biology Department, Alex Watson of the WCWC, Colleen McCrory of the Valhalla Wilderness Society, Pat Rasmussen of the World Temperate Rainforest Coalition, Tony Embleton of the Department of National Defense Lands Coalition, and Ken Wu of the WCWC.
