WCWC Documentaries
  • Walbran Valley Documentary
The Walbran Valley is in danger of being completely clear cut and unless something is done soon to stop it, the effects will be irreversible. This is a short documentary with Ken Wu Campaign Director for the Western Canada Wilderness Committee. Shot in the upper Walbran Valley in the July and August of 2006 and contains footage from the March 2006 Ring-Around-the-Legislature Ancient Forest Rally.
  • Video Petition of Ring-Around-the-Legislature Rally for Vancouver Island's Ancient Forests and for BC Jobs (second time, September 23, 2006)
On Sept.23, 2006, over four hundred people joined hands and encircled the BC Legislative Building in Victoria at a WCWC rally, calling on the BC government to protect all of Vancouver Island's remaining ancient forests and to ban raw log exports. Two videographers, Jeremy Sean Williams and Andrew Marchand-Boddy, went around the ring and created a "video petition" of each person stating their name and where they were from. See the video petition and speeches by Robert Morales (chief negotiator for the Hul'qumi'num Treaty Group), Chief Judith Sayers (Hupacasath Band), Lisa Matthaus (Sierra Club of BC), Ken James (Youbou TimberLess Society), Marjka Mychajlowycz (Friends of Clayoquot Sound), and Ken Wu (WCWC) in this powerful documentary video by Jeremy Sean Williams.

  • Tree of Life Celebration (BC Legislature) - May 2005
On May 7, 2005, ten days before the BC provincial election, the Western Canada Wilderness Committee brought out 400 citizens to take part in the "Rally to Defend Beautiful BC" to raise the profile about several key environmental issues that were relevant to the election. The protesters also formed an image with their bodies on the Legislature lawn of a felled tree with the words "Wake Up - May 17", raising awareness about the importance of the environment for the forthcoming provincial election. See the rally and the incredible image in Jeremy Williams' new documentary video.

  • Tree of Life Celebration (Walbran Valley) - October 2004
On October 9, 2004, five hundred conservationists organized by the Western Canada Wilderness Committee, Rainforest Action Network, Gettin' Higher Choir, and Spectral Q, converged in a Weyerhaeuser clearcut in the Upper Walbran Valley calling for the protection of ancient forests around the world. See Jeremy Williams' documentary on this historic event, the largest environmental gathering in BC's woods since the Clayoquot Sound protests in 1993.

  • Save the Upper Walbran Valley - 2004
In August of 2004, Jeremy Williams and Ken Wu toured several of the recent clearcuts as well as the largest trees in the endangered Upper Walbran Valley. See incredible images of the valley's record-sized trees along with informative commentary about the politics and ecology of the valley in Jeremy Williams' documentary video. Includes a segment on the historic Tree of Life Celebration in the Upper Walbran Valley from Oct.2004.

  • Save the East Creek Rainforest - August 2003
The imminently endangered East Creek Rainforest on northern Vancouver Island is featured in a 13 minute long WCWC documentary video. It was produced by WCWC volunteers Sonia and Magali Ringoot, and features the recent expedition with WCWC campaigners Joe Foy and Ken Wu to the Brooks Peninsula Wilderness, which includes the recently logged Klaskish Valley and the still unlogged East Creek Valley.

  • Eco-Cupid Makes Campbell Fall in Love with Spotted Owls! (BC Legislature Opening Day, February 14, 2006)
Watch a brief video of an environmental street theatre event for the media on the opening day of the BC Legislature, which happened to be on Feb.14, 2006. WCWC volunteer Elise Hoefer plays "Eco-Cupid", as she fires arrows into Gordon Campbell's heart to help him fall in love with spotted owls, BC's parks, Vancouver Island's ancient forests, and BC's oil free coast. WCWC's Campaign Director Ken Wu explains the issues as she takes aim. Unfortunately, none of the arrows stick...we hope that's note an ominous sign... Put together by WCWC volunteer Gordon Peel.
